resident-elect Donald Trump has nominated Charles Kushner, father of Jared Kushner, as ambassador to France. In a Truth Social post, Mr. Trump described Charles Kushner as "a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, & dealmaker."
Charles Kushner is the founder of Kushner Companies and was pardoned by Mr. Trump in 2020 after pleading guilty to tax evasion and making illegal campaign donations. Prosecutors alleged that he orchestrated a scheme against his brother-in-law who was cooperating with federal authorities.
The plan involved hiring a prostitute to lure his brother-in-law, recording their encounter in a motel room using a hidden camera, and sending the footage to his sister, the man's wife. Charles Kushner pleaded guilty to 18 counts, including tax evasion and witness tampering, and served two years in prison under a plea deal.
Jared Kushner is married to Donald Trump's eldest daughter, Ivanka, and was a former White House senior adviser. Mr. Trump and Charles Kushner have known each other through real estate circles since their children got married in 2009.
