Upper East Side Gilded Age mansion to be transformed into exclusive NYC club

Limited memberships available for intimate live music and events.

A
historic Upper East Side mansion, a 1903 Beaux Arts townhouse designed by Warren and Wetmore, is set to undergo a major transformation. The $19 million renovation will see the interior gutted and reconfigured to create a members-only private club with residences above.

The property, which spans 16,000 square feet, will be transformed into a luxurious club space on the lower floors, featuring dining rooms, lounges, and a bar for exclusive members. The top two levels will house three private apartments totaling around 6,000 square feet.

Permits filed with the Department of Buildings outline the plans, which include adding a rooftop extension, enclosing the courtyard for expanded dining space, and installing an ADA-accessible lift. The exterior of the landmarked building is expected to remain intact.

The mansion has been vacant since 2018 and was previously the Permanent Mission of Yugoslavia to the United Nations. It changed hands in 2022 for $50 million to Qatari investor Abdulhadi Al-Hajri, who plans to oversee the renovation through his company Thornham Residential Holdings.
