Dallas investment firm has acquired Uptown Plaza, a shopping center at 2222 McKinney Ave., in a deal that closed January 15. Bellomy Capital, led by partner Ryan Bellomy, purchased the property from AmREIT without disclosing the terms of the transaction. The shopping center is currently 64% leased, with tenants including Wells Fargo and Potbelly Sandwich Shop.
Morton's The Steakhouse recently vacated the site after more than a year left on its lease, leaving a significant gap in the center. Bellomy described Morton's departure as a "shock" and said filling that void will be a key focus for the firm. Several groups have expressed interest in occupying the space.
Bellomy Capital has not developed a long-term plan for the site but is open to partnering with someone who has a strong development proposal. The firm is excited about the property's location near The Crescent and the Ritz Carlton hotel, calling it "the most interesting corner in the city." This acquisition marks Bellomy Capital's second investment in Uptown, following its purchase of S&D Oyster Company in October 2023.
Stream Realty Partners represented Bellomy Capital in the transaction, while Jonathan Carrier of JLL arranged the deal. The firm has teamed with Stream to manage the shopping center and Thomas Glendenning of SHOP Companies will handle leasing.
