C
onstruction on the West Austin Business Park, a logistics warehouse development near Bee Cave, resumed this week after a Travis County judge's temporary ruling. The city of Bee Cave had sued to stop the project in August, citing noise restrictions and environmental concerns. While the court granted the city's contention regarding noise restrictions, it denied their other claims for an injunction.
The city had argued that the development posed broader environmental risks and was incompatible with zoning regulations. They also claimed that the project diverged from a 2015 agreement that only allowed commercial or office development on the site. The judge set a trial date for August 18, but Velocis has resumed construction, stating it will comply with noise requirements outlined in the 2015 agreement.
The development, spanning 23 acres and 270,000 square feet across three industrial buildings, is being leased by KBC Advisors. It aims to attract tenants such as residential showrooms, hospital supply companies, and indoor sports facilities. Residents had protested the project, citing concerns about noise, traffic congestion, and pollution. However, Velocis claims that public opposition was fueled by misinformation spread on social media and by elected officials.
The development is not subject to Bee Cave's zoning ordinances due to its location in the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction. Velocis has refuted claims of a lack of government oversight, stating that Travis County officials regularly inspected the site while the city of Bee Cave did not have the staff to oversee it.
