West Bend Creamery Property Changes Hands

West Bend Creamery Sold: A Change in Ownership for Local Landmark

J
anuary 10, 2025 – West Bend, WI – A new chapter is unfolding for West Bend Creamery, formerly Toucan Custard, which officially changed hands on January 6, 2025. The property at 600 N. Main Street in West Bend, WI, was listed for sale in September 2024 with an asking price of $625,000.

Locals can breathe a sigh of relief as the beloved custard stand will not be demolished to make way for housing development but instead will remain a locally owned restaurant under new ownership. Yomi Verdin, a West Bend resident and former medical sales professional from Naperville, Illinois, is the new owner. She was drawn to the property by nostalgia, recalling fond memories of visiting similar custard stands in her youth.

Verdin plans to enhance the customer experience while honoring the legacy of Jacci Moehr and her family, who built the Creamery into a community favorite. "I want to do right by this community," she said. "This town has such a rich tradition, and I'm honored to be part of it."

The building and business reportedly sold for $623,900, with Boss Realty handling the sale. A timeline for reopening is still in the works.

In related news, Andy Naumann, who purchased Toucan Custard in May 2023 and rebranded it as West Bend Creamery, has put the store up for sale to spend more time with his family. Naumann invested significant time and effort into reviving the business, which had been closed at the time of purchase.

Naumann's decision to sell was motivated by a desire to prioritize his family life. "It's family first," he said. "I've put in a lot of time and energy into this business, but I want to be able to spend more time with my loved ones."

The property had been listed for sale at $599,900, with Boss Realty handling the listing. The sale is part of a larger trend in the ice cream industry, with other local businesses like Scoop DeVille in Hartford and Jim's Place in Slinger also undergoing changes.

In a separate development, Toucan Food & Custard is set to open on Grand Avenue in Port Washington in April 2023, serving Leon's custard and Leroy Meats of Horicon with a Middle Eastern food menu.
