Jersey City man has pleaded guilty to wire fraud related to a real estate transaction in West Virginia's Hampshire County. Chukwuemeka Okorocha, 34, also known as "Mecca," admitted to participating in a scheme where he impersonated a realtor with an accomplice.
The duo sent a fake payoff statement via email to a closing agent, directing $332,904.37 into a bank account controlled by Okorocha. Before the scam was discovered, they spent nearly $30,000 of the funds. As part of his plea deal, Okorocha agreed to pay back the full amount.
The FBI led the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jarod Douglas handling the prosecution. U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble oversaw the case proceedings.
