WeWork Co-Founder Adam Neumann Launches New Venture in Saudi Arabia's Emerging Market

Billionaire-backed co-living startup Flow expands into Riyadh with new location.

A
dam Neumann's co-living startup Flow has expanded to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with its first properties opening in the city. The move marks a new chapter for Neumann, who previously attempted to crack the co-living market with WeLive before stepping down as WeWork CEO. After raising $350 million from Andreessen Horowitz in 2022, Neumann has outfitted Flow properties with coworking spaces, yoga classes, and hotel-style housekeeping services.

Flow Narjis, a compound in the An Narijis area near Riyadh's airport, offers two- and three-bedroom apartments starting at $3,500 per month. The property features amenities like pools, gyms, and bowling alleys, as well as laundry and housekeeping services. Flow has three properties with nearly 1,000 apartments in Riyadh, with construction expected to finish by the end of the year.

Neumann's startup has a unique approach to housing, bundling services like maintenance requests and guest access through its app. The company also offers a "conscious community" experience, hosting events like cacao ceremonies and yoga classes. Flow's website emphasizes values such as "commit," "grow," "love," and "oneness."

Neumann's history with Saudi Arabia is complex, having received significant funding from the country's sovereign wealth fund for WeWork. However, he has also faced criticism over his ties to the kingdom due to its human rights record. Despite this, Neumann has expressed enthusiasm for expanding Flow in Riyadh, calling the city "almost like a startup."
