Why Global MLSs Adopt RESO Standards

Global real estate transactions benefit from shared rules, enhancing transparency and efficiency.

R
eal estate knows no borders. A shared set of rules enhances transparency and efficiency in transactions worldwide. To succeed in residential real estate, one must think big and consider the industry as a whole.

The Syndicat National des Professionnels Immobiliers (SNPI), France's premier real estate association, has become the first Multiple Listing Service in Europe to be fully certified on two global technology standards. This achievement underscores SNPI's commitment to technological excellence and professionalism within the global real estate community.

Open standards that cross borders are essential for trust and efficiency in transactions. RESO's Data Dictionary defines common data field names and types, while its Web API provides a consistent way for data collaborators to request and respond to data transport needs. This enables users to objectively classify organizations, properties, and professionals.

RESO's global partners include over 30 countries across six continents. In Canada, RESO is working with the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) to help MLSs and technology organizations move from traditional standards to RESO's global standards. In Europe, the European Association of Real Estate Professions (CEPI) represents more than 30 national and regional trade associations, working with RESO members to implement new MLS systems.

RESO's global efforts have already generated significant revenue and benefits for its traditional members. For every $1 spent on international initiatives, it brings in $10 in international revenue from membership, event registrations, and sponsorships. The organization's board of directors has made global growth a top priority, and the timing couldn't be better as more countries recognize the importance of data standards.

The long-term commitment of RESO member organizations is key to continued growth. As technology evolves, experts from different regions are needed to serve as subject matter experts at RESO. International members continue to improve existing standards, ensuring that real estate professionals have access to innovation, speedy development, and trusted information worldwide.
