Women in Real Estate: Expanding with Passion

RISMedia interviews West + Main founders Stacie Staub & Madeline Linder on building company culture.

S
tacie Staub and Madeline Linder founded West + Main in 2017, turning a bold idea into one of the country’s most vibrant woman‑owned brokerages. Rejecting venture capital, the Denver duo built a design‑centric, agent‑first firm that now hosts over 400 agents, multiple brands, and a culture rooted in creativity, trust, and community.

Their newest venture, Refresh by West, launched with national contractor Curbio. It offers a turnkey, all‑in‑one solution for prepping homes for sale or move‑in, blending design, speed, and simplicity without upfront fees.

In this interview, Staub and Linder explain how they keep brand identity intact amid rapid growth and how they’re preparing for a shifting market.

**Scaling without outside investors – the biggest challenge and advantage**

Staub says the chief benefit is pride in a company they control. “We can pivot instantly and make decisions without a board or investor mandates,” she explains. “That freedom lets us put agents and clients first, and staying independent matters in a landscape where many brokerages are being absorbed.”

Linder reflects on the initial risk: “The toughest part was having the courage to invest our own money when we had nothing to fall back on,” she recalls. “We paid for marketing materials out of pocket, a huge personal outlay that ultimately paid off exponentially.”

**Keeping a design‑forward brand while growing to 400+ agents**

“From day one, we defined our ideal agent and client and built a brand that’s approachable for all demographics,” Staub notes. “Fair housing has always been a cornerstone.”

Linder adds, “We never compromise on the brand. A long‑term vision keeps it fresh yet consistent.”

    **Dividing leadership to maximize strengths**

Staub says they stay in their lanes yet collaborate fully: “I handle operations; Madie steers creative. We discuss every decision but trust each other to lead when appropriate.”

Linder jokes, “We share a brain,” and confirms that even across other ventures—West Way Lending, Spring House Pilates, and the Blue Nest restaurant—they remain tightly knit.

**Preparing agents and clients for market shifts**

Staub explains they began training agents for a market shift before interest rates spiked. “We teach lifelong professionalism; opportunity exists in every cycle if you’re positioned for it.”

Linder emphasizes clear communication: “Education is everything. We keep agents informed so they can guide clients effectively.”

They recently partnered with Project I See You to support first‑time homebuyers, especially single mothers.

    **Advice for women entrepreneurs**

Staub urges a mindset of abundance and generosity. “Risk is where magic happens,” she says.

Linder stresses culture starts with hiring. “One person can change the team’s energy,” she says. “Staying connected to the local community is key; real estate is just one part of our mission.”
