YouTuber Converts School Bus into Two-Story Home to Escape Rent Costs

South Carolina man spends $57,000 converting school bus into two-story home

A
South Carolina man, Chay Denne, spent over a year and $57,000 transforming an old school bus into a two-story, two-bedroom home on wheels. The 25-year-old YouTube star documented the entire process in a series of videos, showcasing every detail of the meticulous renovation.

Denne's decision to embark on this massive project was driven by his frustration with high rent costs. He had previously worked on smaller vehicle transformations, but wanted something big enough to serve as a full-size home. The bus, which he purchased for $7,000, required minimal engine work and was functional when he bought it.

Denne enlisted the help of his girlfriend, dad, and brother to tackle the massive project. Together, they removed 28 seats from inside the vehicle, raised the roof by 4 feet, and installed a new metal ceiling. The bus's size became "monstrous," but securing the roof was their top priority.

The interior features a bedroom, office, full-size bathroom, and second bedroom, with a loft that doubles as another bedroom. The kitchen has a bar that can seat four people, and the bathroom includes a toilet, sink, and full-size shower. A dehumidifier was installed to prevent mold growth, and massive water tanks provide working plumbing.

The entire build took six months, and Denne revealed the finished product in his YouTube videos. In a surprise twist, he proposed to his girlfriend on the roof of their newly completed home.
