The operator nexspace data centers has secured a site in Erding, Upper Bavaria, to build a new data centre. The Heidelberg-based company acquired a ground lease for the roughly 10,000 square metre plot. nexspace was advised on the legal structuring and execution of the real estate transaction by the global commercial law firm DLA Piper.
By concluding the ground lease agreement, nexspace has laid the foundation for the new facility close to the Bavarian state capital, Munich. Covering approximately one hectare, the site provides the required space to develop the technical infrastructure. Erding thus joins the network of the operator, which specialises in regional data centres across the entire German-speaking region.
Focus on medium-sized enterprises and public-sector clients
Upon completion, the planned data centre in Erding is designed to cater specifically to organisations with elevated security requirements. The offering addresses start-ups, medium-sized businesses and public institutions that rely on secure and local data processing.
For nexspace, the site near Munich represents a significant expansion step. Following Heidelberg, Graz and Stuttgart, Erding will become the fourth location in the Heidelberg operator's portfolio. The company pursues a decentralised model for providing data centre capacity in order to deliver reliable local resources to end users.
- —Securing of a 10,000 square metre plot via a ground lease
- —Fourth location for nexspace after Heidelberg, Graz and Stuttgart
- —Target group focus on start-ups, medium-sized businesses and public institutions
- —Planned commissioning of the infrastructure in 2028
Commissioning planned for 2028
The development of the project is structured for the long term. According to current plans by nexspace, the official commissioning of the facility is scheduled for 2028. Up until that point, the structural conditions on the site in Erding are to be established to allow operational launch on schedule.
