Hamburg-based hotel group NOVUM Hospitality has opened the Holiday Inn - the niu Clink by IHG in the district of Barmbek-Süd. Following the completion of the niu Quay in Hamburg-Harburg, this is the company's second project combining property development, real estate ownership and operational hotel management under one roof. The new building on Holsteinischer Kamp marks the sixth hotel of the joint cooperation with IHG Hotels & Resorts in Hamburg. Across Europe, this brand collaboration now comprises 62 properties in operation and in the secured development pipeline.
The site on Holsteinischer Kamp benefits from its location at the intersection of the Barmbek, Winterhude and Uhlenhorst quarters, as well as direct access to public transport. Established office locations and urban infrastructure are situated in the immediate vicinity. In addition, NOVUM Hospitality plans to expand the site in future: the Candlewood Suites Hamburg-North is being developed in the direct neighbourhood by 2029. While the newly opened hotel is geared towards classic short stays, the future sister hotel specifically targets the extended-stay segment to complement the location.
Holistic value creation and partnership-based delivery
David Etmenan, Chief Executive Officer and owner of NOVUM Hospitality, emphasises that the project demonstrates the systematic expansion of the owner-operator strategy. Through the interplay of ownership, development and operations, real estate and hospitality expertise can be more closely integrated and additional value creation potential unlocked. Samira Etmenan, CEO of the hotel group, also points to the positioning in the upper-midscale segment, which brings together the international reach of IHG with a location-based concept for business and leisure travellers.
Hamburg-based architectural practice Immobilien Consulting Overbeck was responsible for the architectural design. Hamburg construction firm OTTO WULFF Bauunternehmung, acting as a long-standing strategic general contractor, carried out the turnkey construction of the new building. The partnership-based collaboration enabled delivery tailored to the specific requirements of the urban site.
Amenities and architectural reference to the neighbourhood
The hotel features a total of 149 rooms as well as a Living Lobby designed as a multifunctional space for relaxing and mobile working. The name derives from the English term for brick buildings and makes design reference to the traditional clinker brick architecture of the Hamburg district. The interior design combines industrial elements with murals by artist Alexander Isakov, who has already created geometric wall designs for several of the hotel brand's properties.
