The historic telephone exchange in Wuppertal-Elberfeld, located at Briller Straße 39, has achieved a crucial milestone in its project development. The necessary planning permission and monument protection approval were recently granted. This paves the way for the planned conversion measures of the listed building.

The Ferox Immobiliengruppe plans to transform the former telephone exchange into a modern concept. The creation of approximately 90 rental flats is envisioned. Additionally, commercial spaces will be realised on the ground floor. The project aims to preserve the building's distinctive historical character while developing attractive residential and commercial premises.

Expeditious Approval Process

The course of the approval procedure is characterised by its remarkable efficiency. Following the economic transfer of the property in October 2025, the building application was submitted as early as April 2026. Planning permission was granted in September 2026. This means that the project, from acquisition to the granting of planning permission, took less than one year.

Philipp Roth, authorised signatory of Ferox Immobiliengruppe, commented positively on the rapid progress. He emphasised that the approval represents a significant step for the further development of the site and thanked all involved parties, especially the architectural firm Gerlich, for their constructive and solution-oriented cooperation. With the permission now granted, the conversion of the building can commence this year.

Specialisation in Revitalisation

The Ferox Immobiliengruppe specialises in the repurposing and revitalisation of existing buildings that were previously used for commercial purposes and are now being converted into residential space. The company intends to continue expanding this segment. The project in Wuppertal-Elberfeld fits into this strategy by advancing the transformation of a historic industrial building into a contemporary residential and commercial property, while preserving the listed character of the asset.
