Workplace provider 1000 Satellites is continuing its regional expansion in south-western Germany, having commenced operations at its first location in Karlsruhe. In the historic Malzwerk on the iWerkX campus at Rintheimer Straße 23, the company holds around 2,500 square metres of lettable space. Occupation of the premises began back in July, whilst the official opening is scheduled for 19 November.
With the move to Karlsruhe, the company is broadening its previous focus on the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region into a supra-regionally connected economic area. In this context, Frank Mörsch, General Manager Southwest at 1000 Satellites, emphasises that the expansion is not merely about adding floor space. Rather, the objective is to build a cohesive network of professional workplaces across the south-west that meets the operational requirements of modern businesses.
Industrial history and functional work environments
The former production building combines historic industrial architecture with modern office standards. On site, 14 flexible office units are available for businesses and project teams, alongside four meeting and event rooms. The conference spaces can also be booked by external companies for seminars, workshops and client meetings. According to Mörsch, the concept aims to preserve the building's historic identity while functioning as a clearly structured workplace.
The spatial concept deliberately distinguishes itself from traditional lifestyle co-working models. The focus rests on ergonomic computer workstations complying with workplace regulations, functional media technology and personal service. Federico Morales, Business Development Manager Southwest, points to the aim of minimising technical barriers so that users can work productively straight away. Gregory von Abendroth, co-founder and managing director of the company, regards decentralised locations as an essential complement to traditional headquarter complexes, particularly to reduce daily commuting distances.
Space take-up and initial occupiers
Even ahead of the official inauguration, the site is recording tangible demand. Among the first occupiers is digital agency diva-e Conclusion, which has secured around 600 square metres of space. In addition, the firm cerebricks, which is already present at 1000 Satellites' Glückstein site in Mannheim, has taken flexible units in the Karlsruhe Malzwerk for its regional workforce.

With its technology-driven profile comprising medium-sized enterprises, corporate facilities and start-ups, Karlsruhe provides suitable conditions for such decentralised office solutions. The model caters to employers who want to provide their staff with high-standard workplaces close to home and scale their occupational footprints with flexibility.
