Mitchells & Butlers Germany GmbH (MABG) has signed a long-term lease agreement with Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield. This agreement secures a new location for the leisure catering chain ALEX within the planned 'Wald Terrassen' at Westfield Ruhr Park in Bochum. The opening of this new outlet is scheduled for summer 2028 and represents a significant addition to the existing portfolio of currently 43 ALEX establishments.
The new catering concept at Westfield Ruhr Park envisages the creation of an open-air destination, which will comprise a total of ten individual restaurant buildings. A dedicated pavilion in a prominent location is planned for ALEX. This will feature a distinctive timber construction and a nature-inspired design. A key characteristic will also be a spacious outdoor terrace, intended to shape the guest experience.
Concept and Investment
The 'Wald Terrassen' represent a new catering and experience format. Each of the ten emerging restaurant buildings is conceived as an individual unit. The ALEX pavilion will be architecturally appealingly designed to harmoniously integrate into the overall appearance of the complex and offer a high quality of stay. The nature-oriented design of the entire area underscores the character of an open-air destination.
Investments amounting to approximately two million EUR are planned for the design and fitting out of the new ALEX outlet. These funds will be provided entirely from Mitchells & Butlers Germany GmbH's own cash flow. The strategic decision to invest in a location of this type reflects confidence in the 'Wald Terrassen' concept and the further development of Westfield Ruhr Park as a central attraction in the region.
