The estate of legendary "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek, known as Windfall Farms, is being offered for auction, concurrently with a sale price of $33 million. This provides interested buyers with the opportunity to acquire one of California's largest privately owned vineyard units. Trebek owned the ranch in the 1990s and early 2000s, where he primarily used it as a stud farm and training facility for thoroughbreds, breeding successful racehorses such as Reba’s Gold, before selling it.

The bidding phase begins on 5th August and culminates in a live auction on 15th August. The 723-acre estate offers a unique combination of wine production, equestrian infrastructure, and development potential.

Windfall Farms is located in the heart of the Paso Robles AVA and comprises approximately 723 contiguous acres, of which 387 acres are planted with premium dry red wine grape varieties. More than half of the estate is dedicated to wine production, with grapes contractually sold to established regional wineries. This already generates positive cash flows and represents a profitable operational structure.

  • Asking Price: $33 million
  • Location: Paso Robles, California
  • Main House Size: approx. 929 square metres (10,000 sqft)
  • Lot Size: 723 Acres
  • Bedrooms: 8, Bathrooms: 6 full, 6 half
  • Special Features: 387 Acres of vineyards, 6.5-furlong racetrack, four equestrian stables, 76 approved building plots, four operational wells, manager residences

The estate also boasts significant long-term development potential, supported by 76 approved building plots, extensive utility infrastructure, and ample water from multiple wells and the Huero Huero Creek.

Before the estate became known for its vineyards, it served as Trebek's private thoroughbred breeding operation. Many of the equestrian facilities remain intact to this day, including a 6.5-furlong Kentucky-style racetrack, expansive paddocks, and four specialised stables for training, foaling, stallion breeding, and yearling development. These operations are supported by paved internal roads, multiple manager residences, equipment buildings, and an infrastructure that allows for both agricultural and equestrian uses.

In addition to agricultural and equestrian use, the estate includes a nearly 929-square-metre main residence with six bedrooms and six bathrooms. The interior of the house opens into a living area arranged around a large leather sofa, with continuous wooden flooring that extends into the connected dining area and kitchen. Brick walls and oversized panoramic windows frame expansive views over the surrounding vineyards. Sliding doors connect the space to an outdoor terrace. The kitchen, fitted with a large wooden island with a bar counter and warm wooden cabinets, completes the open-plan living area. The terrace features a central seating area around a square fire pit, with the balustrade kept low to ensure an uninterrupted view of the lawn and vine rows.

The main residence's six bedrooms each present unique design elements, yet remain visually connected to the surrounding landscape. Upstairs in the house is an office arranged around a multi-person desk, as well as a conference room with a long wooden table. A games and media room is divided into areas for billiards, a wet bar, and casual seating.
