The Housing Office of the state capital Düsseldorf is organising networking meetings to promote communal living in a rental model. These events will take place on Thursday, 17th September, and Thursday, 22nd October 2026, each starting at 5 PM. The approximately two-hour gatherings serve to provide information about this living concept, to facilitate exchange among interested parties, and to initiate potential rental communities. Participation in these meetings is free of charge.
A characteristic of a rental community is that each household occupies its own flat. This is complemented by shared communal spaces which serve for encounters, exchange, and joint activities. This living model aims to bring together people of different generations and life situations and to foster an active, neighbourly coexistence. Openness, mutual consideration, and a willingness to jointly shape communal life are cited as fundamental prerequisites for the success of such a community.
The networking meetings will be held at Brinckmannstraße 5. Interested parties can register via the email address neue-wohnformen64@duesseldorf.de. The registration confirmation will include further information on the exact venue.
Specific housing project in Düsseldorf-Lörick
A significant impetus for organising these networking meetings is a planned communal living project in a new build in the Düsseldorf district of Lörick. The flats intended there, in the publicly subsidised housing segment, are to be fully let to members of the association “Miteinander Wohnen in Verantwortung” (Living Together Responsibly). The project aims to establish a neighbourhood characterised by community spirit, solidarity, and mutual support.
Through communal activities and individual design options, residents are to be enabled to live as long and self-determined a life as possible in their own homes. The offer is primarily aimed at individuals of the 50+ generation with a housing entitlement certificate of category A or B. This target group should intend to live independently and actively contribute to a vibrant house community. The concept is also designed to give people with health or physical limitations the opportunity to remain self-determined in their homes for a long time despite these circumstances.
