Alpiq AG, a Swiss energy company, has acquired ECO POWER ONE GmbH, a project company belonging to ECO STOR GmbH. This transaction includes the Bollingstedt battery storage facility. The technical operation of the facility will remain the responsibility of ECO STOR. Both parties have agreed to maintain confidentiality regarding the details of the purchase price.

Since its commissioning in June 2025, the battery storage facility in Bollingstedt has been regarded as a pioneering large-scale storage project in Germany. The facility demonstrates the economical, grid-serving and transparent operation of battery storage systems. In cooperation with grid operator SH Netz, ECO STOR developed one of Germany's first Flexible Connection Agreements (FCA) for battery storage at this site. In addition, central operating data of the large-scale storage facility were made transparent via a publicly accessible dashboard, thereby establishing new standards for traceability in storage operation.

From ECO STOR's perspective, the transaction is an indicator of the increasing maturity of the German storage market and the confidence of international investors in modern battery storage technologies. Jörn Rohland, CFO of ECO STOR, stated that with Bollingstedt, Alpiq is investing in a project that has set new standards in terms of grid integration, operation and transparency. He emphasised that the deliberate decision of an international energy company to invest in this battery storage facility confirms ECO STOR's approach and demonstrates that quality, experience and innovative operating concepts are successful in the market.

For ECO STOR, this acquisition underscores that the valuation of professionally developed battery storage systems is no longer based solely on their installed capacity. Instead, reliable operating and marketing concepts, intelligent integration into the electricity system, and the ability to link economic and grid-serving requirements are crucial. Mr Rohland further explained that Bollingstedt proves that predictability and grid serviceability are not contradictory. He highlighted that the Flexible Connection Agreement creates a reliable framework for storage operation and demonstrates that innovative solutions can be economically viable. The conviction of a company like Alpiq regarding these qualities is a relevant signal for the ramp-up of storage in Germany and clarifies that grid serviceability and investment capability can correlate.

ECO STOR will continue to operate the battery storage facility technically and operationally, with responsibility for safe and grid-serving operation remaining with the company. The experience gained will be continuously integrated into the development of future large-scale storage projects. According to Jörn Rohland, ECO STOR aims to accelerate the ramp-up of storage in Germany. Every successful facility builds trust, and every successful transaction mobilises capital for new projects to gradually create the necessary storage infrastructure for a secure, resilient and climate-neutral energy system in Germany.

The acquisition builds on an existing cooperation between Alpiq and ECO STOR. At the end of 2025, both companies announced their collaboration in the context of a tolling agreement for the Schuby battery storage facility. With the acquisition of the Bollingstedt storage facility, this existing partnership is further expanded. Société Générale acted as financial advisor to ECO STOR for the transaction. Legal advice was provided by the law firm CMS.
