Astropark in Frankfurt am Main has received BREEAM certification with an 'Outstanding' rating. This award represents the highest category within the internationally recognised BREEAM system and has been granted for the first time to a building in Aroundtown's portfolio. The property is located at Lyoner Straße 9 in the Lyoner Quartier of Frankfurt-Niederrad. Only three other buildings across Germany have achieved this certification level, highlighting the significance of the award for Astropark.
Since Astropark's initial BREEAM certification in 2023, Aroundtown has continuously developed the office complex's sustainability performance. This included the targeted implementation of new measures, the optimisation of existing processes, and the effective integration of existing facilities. Implemented measures include the conversion to LED lighting, the installation of water-saving fittings, the introduction of digital meter reading for energy and water, the implementation of advanced control technology, the establishment of e-charging stations, and the implementation of leakage detection for water and refrigerants.
Alexander Rüb, Head of the National System Representation BREEAM D-A-CH at TÜV SÜD, stated that Astropark achieved the highest award level 'Outstanding' in the BREEAM system. He emphasised that Aroundtown has relied on BREEAM for many years, which underscores the importance of transparency, quality, and international comparability in assessing sustainability performance in existing building stock. Astropark demonstrates how sustainability aspects can be systematically recorded and documented using clearly defined criteria. For investors, such independent and verifiable assessments provide a reliable information basis for classifying sustainability performance in real estate portfolios.
Limor Bermann, Chief Sustainability Officer at Aroundtown, commented on the certification. She described the first 'Outstanding' certification in the portfolio as an important success for Aroundtown. Astropark's sustainability performance had been gradually improved over several years through targeted measures. The result confirms the approach of considering each building individually and strengthening the long-term quality and future viability of the portfolio through active asset management. Tenants thus benefit from a high-quality and modern working environment.
In addition to BREEAM certification, Astropark was awarded WiredScore Platinum, the highest certification level for digital connectivity and future-proofing. This rating takes into account, among other things, resilience, user experience, mobile network coverage, and the choice of connectivity solutions, underscoring the office complex's powerful digital infrastructure.
Mustafa Aybasti, responsible project manager for Astropark at SPIE and a long-standing tenant on site, explained that SPIE has been responsible for Astropark's technical facility management for 27 years. He emphasised the continuous further development of the building's energy efficiency and sustainability together with the owner Aroundtown. SPIE makes a significant contribution to meeting the requirements for BREEAM certification. The implemented measures include the installation of intelligent building management technology for needs-based control of heating, cooling, and lighting systems, the conversion to LED technology, and the establishment of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The project was supported by auditor Rafael Morales from IBD sustain.
