Comprehensive realignment under established brand
Global real estate investment manager BGO is undertaking another brand transition. The firm, which initially emerged from the 2019 merger with Bentall Kennedy as BentallGreenOak and shortened its trading name to BGO in 2024, is returning to its GreenOak roots as part of a group-wide restructuring.
Canadian parent company Sun Life Financial announced that its institutional asset management platform SLC Management, which manages 326 billion US dollars in assets, will in future operate collectively under the GreenOak name. The full implementation of the rebranding is expected to be completed within the coming year.
The move brings together the existing BGO alongside several specialised sister companies under a single identity:
- —BGO in the real estate investment sector
- —Crescent Capital and SLC Fixed Income for credit and fixed-income strategies
- —InfraRed Capital Partners focusing on infrastructure investments
- —Advisors Asset Management in the field of structured wealth solutions
Strategic expansion and recent portfolio acquisitions
Sonny Kalsi, President and CEO of GreenOak, emphasised that the move reflects the company's evolution towards an integrated operating platform. He noted that, irrespective of the name change, the focus remains firmly on delivering robust investment outcomes, providing first-class client service, and offering staff the best possible support in their work.
Toronto-based Sun Life Financial manages more than 1.6 trillion US dollars in total. The financial services provider acquired GreenOak Real Estate in 2018 prior to the merger with Bentall Kennedy. The return to the brand builds on this history, whilst deliberately expanding the name beyond the pure real estate business, the company stated.
On the dealmaking side, the firm has recently taken decisive steps. Last month, the business secured a fully let portfolio of eleven surgical centres in the US from Flagship Healthcare Properties and AEW Capital Management. The properties comprise a combined 223,000 square feet across nine markets; the purchase price was not disclosed.
In addition, the firm acquired residential management and development company Bell Partners, which holds 10 billion US dollars in assets under management, for 350 million US dollars in March. Completion of that transaction was slated for the third quarter of this year.
