The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), in cooperation with the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute (C2CPII), has initiated a new professional development programme. The English-language online format is titled "Cradle to Cradle Certified®: Learn & Act" and is aimed at professionals wishing to acquire in-depth knowledge of circular value-creation processes and the application of established product standards. The course is designed as an on-demand model in which participants work through the content at their own pace over a period of one month.
Upskilling for growing regulatory requirements
In view of stricter sustainability standards and rising transparency obligations, business demand is growing for experts who can assess building materials and goods on the basis of material health and long-term value retention. The programme provides a practical introduction to the Full Scope, Circularity and Material Health product standards. Alongside methodological foundations, the course analyses the impacts of digitalisation, artificial intelligence and regulatory frameworks on circular business models.
A central focus is placed on the interface between product certifications and the DGNB system. It conveys the extent to which circular materials contribute directly to the overall performance and sustainability assessment of buildings. Upon successful completion, participants receive the certificate and carry the title "Cradle to Cradle Certified® Professional".
Target groups and organisational framework
The programme is aimed at professionals across various disciplines seeking to implement sustainable material cycles in practice:
- —Product developers and designers with a focus on circular material health
- —Specialists in quality management, compliance and procurement
- —Sustainability experts and consultants from the real estate sector
Dr Christine Lemaitre, Chief Executive Officer of the DGNB, emphasised that the DGNB Academy is breaking new ground with this cooperation and, for the first time, offering training in partnership that conveys the principles of circular construction beyond its traditional industry network. Lucie Ladigue, Partnership & Policy Manager at C2CPII, highlighted that the collaboration with the DGNB represents a targeted initiative to make the expertise behind the standard accessible to a broader audience.
The training is provided via the DGNB digital learning platform and starts on a monthly cycle. The first course begins on 2 November 2026, followed by a further intake on 7 December 2026. The standard participation fee is EUR 340 plus VAT, while a reduced fee of EUR 290 plus VAT applies to DGNB members.
