Cureus, a company specialising in the ownership and management of inpatient care properties, along with the future operator compassio, has performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Korbach Residential Carrée. The event took place in the presence of Mayor Stefan Kieweg and the First District Councillor and Head of Building Planning for the Waldeck-Frankenberg district, Karl-Friedrich Frese. Additionally, representatives from the developer, operator, construction companies, and administration attended the ceremony, as did neighbours of the forthcoming complex.
As part of the festive ceremony, a time capsule, containing among other things a daily newspaper, coins, and construction documents, was symbolically interred. The approximately 30 attendees were also provided with detailed information about the planned senior residence and initial impressions of the construction site at Poststraße 1 and 3 in Korbach, Hesse. Cureus is acting as the general contractor for this project and is responsible for the construction execution.
Project Timeline and Scope of Services
Uwe Poganiatz-Heine, Project Manager at Cureus, commented on the construction progress: “In 2023, the site was cleared, and the existing buildings on the former post office site were demolished. The subsequent earthworks and drainage works were carried out on schedule, which enabled the shell construction contractor to commence work at the end of May. The groundbreaking ceremony traditionally took place during the foundation work. In parallel, work will begin on the building with barrier-free housing. We expect to hand over both buildings to our operating partner compassio as planned at the end of 2027.”
Johannes Knake, Managing Director of compassio, emphasised the project's significance for the region: “We project a growing demand for care places in Korbach and the surrounding region and welcome the development of this location. Our company plans to give the new location a regionally specific name. Based on our experience in operating care and residential facilities for seniors, we ensure high-quality care for future residents and modern workplaces for nursing staff. We place importance on individual social and therapeutic support.”

The completion of the buildings is scheduled for the end of 2027, with Cureus handing over both units turnkey to compassio. This represents an important contribution to the long-term care of older people in the Waldeck-Frankenberg region.
