Montea, the investor and developer specialising in logistics, has added a property in Cargo City South at Frankfurt Airport to its portfolio. The acquired property comprises a lettable area of approximately 23,000 square metres and is fully leased to Worldwide Flight Services (WFS). WFS is a leading international provider of air freight handling and logistics services. Through this acquisition, Montea strengthens its presence in the German market and invests in one of Europe's most significant air freight locations.
Frankfurt Airport serves as Germany's largest air freight location and is one of the central international hubs for global goods traffic. In 2024, approximately 2.1 million tonnes of cargo were handled there. The property is located within Cargo City South, an essential component of the airport's air freight and logistics ecosystem. It benefits from direct access to both the airside and landside of the airport, as well as the existing customs infrastructure and immediate connections to international commodity flows.
Strategic Importance and Market Situation
The limited availability of space within major European airport locations means that comparable logistics properties are rarely available. The long-term lease to WFS, a company of the SATS Group, which operates at numerous international airports worldwide, underscores the importance of the location for international air freight and logistics processes.
Jo De Wolf, CEO of Montea, commented on the strategic relevance of the acquisition, emphasising that airport logistics and airport-adjacent properties are part of Montea's DNA. He highlighted that Frankfurt Airport is one of Europe's most strategically important logistics locations and opportunities to acquire high-quality logistics space within Cargo City are extremely rare. This acquisition combines one of Europe's most significant air freight locations with an internationally established user, with locations of such quality and direct connection to air freight infrastructure being scarce.
Germany represents one of Montea's most important growth markets in Europe. The Frankfurt location solidifies the company's position in a central spot for international supply chains. Montea sees attractive long-term development opportunities there and intends to further expand its presence in selected logistics regions. The acquisition in Frankfurt is a consistent step within Montea's European growth strategy; the company is already present at several German logistics locations such as Hamburg, Leverkusen, and Mannheim.
