ApartmentIQ, a data analytics company specialising in the multifamily sector, announced on Tuesday the closing of a follow-on funding round worth $25 million. Susquehanna Growth Equity (SGE) provided the capital, having previously led ApartmentIQ's $22.5 million Series B funding in 2021. At that time, the company operated under the name Rentable and was a major national marketplace for residential properties.
ApartmentIQ, which now positions itself as a real-time market intelligence, revenue management, and AI platform for the multifamily sector, further announced that its customer base has surpassed the 8 million residential unit mark. Alec Slocum, co-founder and CEO of ApartmentIQ, commented on the follow-on funding round: "We are leveraging the data that powers our market survey platform and expanding our product offering."
Product Expansions and the Introduction of MavenAI
Within the last nine months, two additional products based on this data have been launched. The first product, "Explore Pro", is a market research tool used by acquisition and asset management teams to make purchasing, construction, and renovation decisions. The second product is "Daylight", a revenue management tool fed by publicly available data. Both products are expected to reach more than 1 million customer units in their first year of launch.
The SGE capital also enabled the introduction of MavenAI, ApartmentIQ's marketing agent for multifamily properties, representing the company's first significant step into the field of so-called "Agentic AI". MavenAI uses software to gain insights and take action on behalf of operators. Furthermore, the SGE funding will be used for the continuous staffing increase in ApartmentIQ's engineering, data, product development, and go-to-market teams.
Strategic Expansion and Future Outlook
Alec Slocum emphasised the importance of MavenAI: "Maven automates marketing actions that customers want and builds on ApartmentIQ's data. It integrates with their property management software and uses AI to create posts for social media and Google Business pages. It also updates prices and availability using AI." He sees a growing opportunity to gain insights from their data by utilising large language models and to take direct action for customers through agentic workflows.
ApartmentIQ's core market survey platform supports 1,500 portfolios and 70 percent of the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) Top 50. Josh Elser, Managing Director at SGE, stated: "Since our initial investment, Alec and his team have consistently translated product innovation into significant adoption within the multifamily industry, as AI tools gain prominence." He added that the company's expansion and effective use of AI reflect a platform that extends its capabilities and is becoming increasingly crucial for operators and owners.
Although no further funding rounds are planned for ApartmentIQ for now, the company expects to increase its current workforce of 135 people and introduce new products by 2026. Alec Slocum anticipates a roughly 50 percent growth in the employee base this year. He mentioned that the company is profitable and will primarily invest in expanding its data offerings and agentic workflows. Two new data offerings are expected in the third quarter.
