British property portal Rightmove has revised official descriptions on its website after competing platform MyPorta challenged the accuracy of its previous statements. At the centre of the issue were promotional claims that had attributed an exceptionally high volume of listed properties to the portal over many years.

The phrasing that has now been removed claimed that more than 900,000 properties were available for sale and over 200,000 properties for rent on the platform. As emerged during the review, these text elements originally dated back to 2010 and no longer accurately reflected current market conditions.

Review leads to removal of outdated listing figures

After the accuracy of the figures was subjected to a detailed review, the portal operator acted on the findings and removed the relevant text passages from its website in September 2026. In doing so, the company responded to observations made by competitor MyPorta, which had publicly questioned the reliability of the claims.

The correction highlights the growing importance of precise inventory figures in the competition between British property portals. For commercial estate agents as well as private property seekers, published listing volumes form an essential basis for assessing a provider's market presence.

Competitive pressure and transparency in the British portal market

The incident demonstrates that even established market leaders must continually align their published information with actual performance metrics as soon as new market participants examine the transparency of existing marketing claims. The key aspects of the correction include the following points:

  • —Withdrawal of the claim of over 900,000 properties for sale
  • —Deletion of the reference to more than 200,000 rental properties
  • —Removal of phrasing originating in 2010
  • —Completion of the revision in September 2026 following intervention by MyPorta

The adjustment is intended to ensure that the platform's public profile corresponds with the actual listings recorded and meets the standards required for transparent reporting in the digital real estate sector.
