Hyatt has reaffirmed its expansion strategy in the Italian market, announcing the realisation of three new hotel projects. These ventures, located in strategically important destinations, will add 428 rooms and suites to the existing portfolio. Italy, a key market in European tourism, is forecast to see international visitor spending increase to EUR 78 billion by 2035. Hyatt currently operates 170 hotels across 19 brands in Europe, including six hotels in Italy, covering five different brands. The locations of the Italian properties are Milan, Venice, Rome, Florence and Sardinia.

Since 2019, Hyatt has significantly increased the number of rooms in its Italian portfolio. The planned new openings solidify the brand's presence in the upper-upscale, lifestyle and luxury segments, where Hyatt records consistent demand. The projects underscore the importance of converting existing properties to establish global brands in highly frequented Italian destinations. The Hyatt Regency Rome Central and the Thompson Rome mark the market entry of these brands into Italy, while the Park Hyatt Taormina positions the luxury brand Park Hyatt beyond Milan to Sicily.

The opening of the Hyatt Regency Rome Central is scheduled for the end of the third quarter of 2026 and is located near Roma Termini main station. With 238 rooms and suites, a rooftop pool, a pool bar and the Niroma restaurant, the hotel will primarily target the business travel and MICE segments. The central location ensures direct access to transport hubs and key event venues. As the first Hyatt Regency in Italy, it will represent the brand's service excellence, which is present in over 50 countries worldwide with more than 240 hotels.

The Thompson Rome, slated to open in the fourth quarter of 2026, will introduce the Thompson Hotels lifestyle brand to Italy for the first time. Located in a historic building near the Colosseum and Roman Forum, the hotel will feature 69 rooms and three dining establishments, including an Italian Riviera-style restaurant and a rooftop cocktail bar. The Thompson Hotels brand stands for design, gastronomy and local culture, qualities that align with the Rome location.

In Sicily, the opening of the Park Hyatt Taormina is scheduled for 2028. This hotel will be the brand's second property in Italy, following the Park Hyatt Milan. With 121 suites offering private terraces and views of the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna, the hotel positions itself in the premium segment. Locally inspired dining concepts and a spacious spa area complement the offering. Nuno Galvao Pinto, Vice President Development EAME at Hyatt, emphasised Italy's importance as a growth market due to travel demand and the presence of independent hotels interested in brand affiliation. The expansion in Italy creates additional accommodation options for the 66 million members of the World of Hyatt loyalty programme.
