Venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz, also known as a16z, will open an office in West Palm Beach, Florida. This office will focus on investments in the defence technology sector. The company has signed a lease agreement at Related Ross's CityPlace Tower, as confirmed by a representative of the landlord. Details regarding the exact floor area were not provided.
The office, scheduled to open early next year, will serve as the regional headquarters for a16z's USD 1.18 billion 'American Dynamism Fund'. This fund is led by General Partner Katherine Boyle. The Menlo Park, California-based firm recently announced the expansion.
West Palm Beach as a Tech Hub
This transaction underscores another success for Stephen Ross, the billionaire owner of Related Ross. Ross has initiated a USD 10 billion development programme to transform the city into a leading technology and finance hub. Since the beginning of the pandemic, prominent financial institutions such as Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, and J.P. Morgan Chase have signed leases in office buildings owned by Related Ross.
For a16z, this marks a return to South Florida. In 2022, the firm opened an office in Miami Beach for crypto investments, but closed the 8,300 square foot base just two years later — three years before the lease expired. A16z is thus following another company in the defence technology sector, Palantir, which moved its global headquarters from Denver to Aventura this year.
Related Ross Real Estate Investments
Ross acquired the CityPlace Tower, where a16z will be located, in 2021 for USD 175 million, according to property records. Built in 2008, the building at 525 Okeechobee Boulevard comprises 18 storeys and an area of 303,519 square feet. The developer also plans the construction of two additional Class-A office buildings, having received a construction financing package of USD 772 million last year.
