INNEXIS Holding GmbH & Co. KG is planning to acquire the Life Science Campus in Kundl, Austria, from the globally operating biotechnology and pharmaceutical group Novartis. This planned transaction will enable Novartis Austria to intensify its strategic focus on its core business, which includes the research, development and production of innovative medicines.

Dr. Martin Egger, CEO of the INNEXIS Group, commented on this undertaking, emphasising the significance of acquiring such an established pharmaceutical and life science park for INNEXIS' corporate development. He highlighted that Novartis is showing confidence in INNEXIS to manage and further develop the site in the best interests of the resident companies, the workforce, and the entire region. INNEXIS specialises in unburdening pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies through professional site management and specialised solutions in engineering and logistics, allowing them to concentrate on their core competencies.

As part of the planned acquisition in Kundl, INNEXIS intends to acquire an area of approximately 264,000 square metres with over 100 buildings, as well as the associated infrastructure and services. The research and production facilities themselves will remain the property of Novartis. Roland Gander, Managing Director of Campus Kundl/Schaftenau, explained the strategic decision behind this. He stated that transferring the management of the Life Science Campus Kundl to a specialised industrial park operator can better maximise the economic potential of the site and drive its development, which would also facilitate the establishment of new companies.

For the majority of the approximately 850 employees at the Kundl site, no immediate changes are expected as a result of the acquisition, as Novartis will continue to base its core activities on the campus. It is planned that 30 employees from the current campus management will transfer to the INNEXIS Group with their existing roles and responsibilities. As the new owner and operator, INNEXIS plans comprehensive further development of the site.

  • Attracting further companies, as production buildings, offices, and vacant areas are available for marketing.
  • Sustainable and future-proof design of the energy supply for the life science parks.
  • Implementation of robust and innovative infrastructures to meet security of supply, regulatory requirements, and decarbonisation goals.

The transaction is anticipated for 1 January 2027. The agreement remains subject to the fulfilment of customary closing conditions and the receipt of the necessary regulatory approvals, including antitrust clearance in Austria.
