A significant real estate transaction has been completed in Berlin-Spandau, guaranteeing the long-term future of a central location for social infrastructure. Mosaik-Berlin gGmbH, an institution for people with disabilities, has acquired the plot of land at Askanierring 155/156 from the Federal Institute for Real Estate Tasks (BImA). This acquisition not only secures the operation of the Mosaik workshop but also the continuation of further social and cultural offerings on the premises.
The Askanierring site has served as a centre for inclusion and social cohesion in Spandau for four decades. In 1986, Mosaik's self-proclaimed oldest and largest workshop location was opened here, an event which was attended at the time by then Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker. Today, more than 300 people with and without disabilities work at this location, underscoring the site's relevance for social and professional integration.
Long-term securing of use
Negotiations with the Federal Institute for Real Estate Tasks extended over several years and have now culminated in a successful purchase by Mosaik-Berlin gGmbH. This transaction is of paramount importance for the Mosaik workshop, whose existence at Askanierring is now secured for the long term. The stability of the site makes it possible to continue and further develop the valuable work with people with disabilities without interruption.
Beyond the Mosaik workshop, a diverse social infrastructure has grown on the Askanierring premises over the years. This includes, among other things, a day-care centre, several sports clubs, and cultural associations. The acquisition of the land by Mosaik-Berlin gGmbH thus also benefits these institutions by providing them with a reliable and lasting basis for their respective activities. This development ensures that Askanierring will continue to be a vital part of Spandau's social landscape.
Diverse social commitment at the site
Among the actors benefiting from this transaction are AWOKita Sternschnuppe, which plays an important role in childcare in the region. Furthermore, the dance sports club Askania TSC Berlin and the martial arts school Randori-Pro Spandau will have a secure future for their sports offerings. The Serbian-German community Mladost Berlin e.V. will also continue its cultural and community activities on this site. Through the purchase, an important hub for social services and civic engagement in Spandau is preserved and can be collaboratively developed in the future, which highlights the significance of this transaction beyond its pure real estate value.
