The Supervisory Board of Techem GmbH has mutually agreed with Matthias Hartmann, the former CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board, and Dr.-Ing. Carsten Sürig, the Chief Financial Officer, on a change in the company's leadership. This step accelerates the personnel restructuring of the company that was already underway. Hartmann had previously announced that he would not extend his contract beyond spring 2027. Both executives will step down from the Executive Board prematurely, effective 27 August 2026.
For the interim period, until the positions are permanently refilled, a dual leadership will take over the management of Techem. Ulrich Schiller, currently CEO of Techem Germany, and Michael Nilles, a member of the Advisory Board, will lead the group as Co-CEOs. This interim solution relies on the expertise of both managers, whose profiles are considered particularly well-suited to the company's strategic priorities, which place a clear focus on customers in the real estate industry and digital offerings.
Expertise for strategic transformation
The selection of the interim leaders reflects Techem's strategic direction. Ulrich Schiller brings extensive experience as a managing director in housing companies, which aligns with the company's ambition to tailor its offerings even more closely to the requirements of the housing industry. Michael Nilles complements this with many years of digitalisation expertise, which he gained in various well-known industrial firms. His knowledge is crucial for the further development of digital services.
Tom Blades, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Techem Group, acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing executives, Hartmann and Sürig. He emphasised that they had played a significant role in driving Techem's strategic transformation, developing the company from a traditional metering and billing service provider into a digital provider for energy and building management. Blades stressed that Techem is now financially sound to continue this transformation and expand profitably. He expressed confidence in the interim leadership and described Nilles and Schiller as very experienced hands for the transitional period.
Focus on digital services and decarbonisation
Techem plans to align its strategic course even more consistently with the needs of its customers in the housing industry going forward. The company intends to significantly expand its range of comprehensive digital services in the areas of energy and decarbonisation. The focus here is on scaling smart metering solutions and increasing the use of Artificial Intelligence to optimise building energy management. A concrete step in this direction was the acquisition of a majority stake in inexogy smart metering in September 2025, one of Germany's largest competitive metering point operators.
