Swedish video game developer Markus Persson, creator of Minecraft and known under the pseudonym Notch, has put his Beverly Hills estate up for sale for 70 million $. This matches the sum the entrepreneur paid for the property over a decade ago. In 2014, Persson caused a stir when he outbid musical couple Beyonce and Jay-Z, setting a record price at the time for a newly built luxury residence in Beverly Hills. The acquisition immediately followed the sale of his development studio Mojang to Microsoft for 2.5 billion $.
The property sits on a plot of just under 0.96 acres in the prestigious Trousdale Estates neighbourhood, also referred to as Billionaire's Row owing to its affluent residents. The residence, spanning around 22,300 square feet, was designed by luxury property developer Bruce Makowsky, who tailored the scheme precisely to the elevated hillside setting and the sweeping panoramic views across the Los Angeles basin.
Open floor plans and a private suite with its own pool
Beyond the oversized entrance portal lies a light-filled foyer featuring polished stone floors beneath a large skylight. The adjoining living areas include a central lounge as well as a formal dining room, where a lighting installation composed of numerous pendant lights hovers over a long dining table. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors link the interior spaces with the outdoor grounds. The adjacent kitchen features a monumental centre island, light-coloured cabinetry and dark wood elements, leading directly to a fully equipped outdoor kitchen.
A focal point of the layout is the primary suite. Thanks to retractable glass walls, the room provides unobstructed views of the Los Angeles skyline. Directly outside the sleeping area, a private terrace with its own infinity pool extends along the edge of the grounds. The en suite bathroom is clad entirely in marble and contains a freestanding bathtub alongside a glazed rain shower. The accommodation is complemented by separate guest wings with their own terrace access.
Extensive amenities for entertaining and hospitality
Alongside the private quarters, the estate features several spaces tailored to formal hosting. These include a private nightclub with a fixed DJ booth, dance floor and professional sound and lighting systems, as well as a full recording studio with a separate drum room. In addition, the house offers a temperature-controlled, glass-enclosed wine cellar, a home cinema with tiered leather seating, staff quarters and a dedicated security office.
