Actor's LA estate drops for fifth time as luxury market faces downturn

Los Angeles mansion tax slows luxury sales; Jim Carrey's Brentwood home remains unsold.

J
im Carrey's Los Angeles mansion is still on the market after nearly two years, with its price slashed for the fifth time to $19.75 million. The 10,954-square-foot estate in Brentwood was originally listed at $28.9 million in February 2023.

Despite its luxurious amenities, including a tennis court, waterfall pool, and treetop meditation platform, the property has failed to attract buyers. Many attribute this to Los Angeles' new mansion tax, which imposes a 5.5% levy on homes over $10 million.

The tax, approved by voters in 2022, is intended to fund affordable housing and homelessness programs but has had a devastating impact on luxury homeowners. Luxury home sales in LA plummeted 68% after the tax took effect on April 1, 2023, according to MLS data.

Carrey's estate, which features five bedrooms, six full baths, and three half baths, is packed with high-end features like an Art Deco theater, gym, and soaking tub in the master suite. However, its price cuts have not yet attracted a buyer.
