A
new buyer has acquired Alabama's extravagant "Palace of Versailles," a 55,000-square-foot mansion in the Shoal Creek gated community. The property, known as "the guitar house" due to its distinctive guitar-shaped driveway, entered into contract last week after being listed for $5 million.
The opulent chateau boasts soaring ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and hand-painted murals throughout its 15 bedrooms and 22 bathrooms. Previous owners include former MedPartners CEO Larry House, who spent over $30 million building the home in the early 2000s before selling it at a significant loss.
The property has changed hands several times since then, with Medical Cloud Computing LLC purchasing it for $4.8 million in 2017 and transferring ownership to founder Robert Gold in 2020. The current buyer's identity remains unknown, but the home went under contract on April 28.
The mansion features a range of luxurious amenities, including a ballroom, billiards room, wine cellar, and private cinema. Equestrian enthusiasts will appreciate the stables, carriage house, and riding arena on the property. A six-stable barn, guesthouse with two-car garage, and fountains and gardens complete the estate's impressive offerings.
