A
mazon's expansion in Manhattan continues unabated. Following its 330,000 square-foot lease at 10 Bryant Park and a $1 billion purchase of the former Lord & Taylor building, Jeff Bezos' company has made another significant move. On Friday, Amazon closed on the acquisition of 522 Fifth Ave from Aby Rosen's RFR Realty.
The deal adds 600,000 square feet to Amazon's presence in Manhattan, bringing its total footprint to a substantial size. This comes as a surprise to those who predicted Amazon would abandon New York after its bid for a regional headquarters campus in Queens was rejected by local officials in 2016.
CBRE dealmaker Stephen B. Siegel noted that "Never give up on New York City or the availability of capital here," and it seems Amazon is taking his advice to heart, continuing to invest heavily in the city despite initial setbacks.
