nthro Energy, a San Jose-based battery maker, is relocating its operations to a new headquarters in Alameda. The company has leased a 31,700-square-foot industrial property at 2095 North Loop Road, which will serve as a research and development center, small-scale manufacturing demonstration site, and new headquarters. Anthro Energy plans to add a laboratory, R&D facilities, shipping and storage areas, and revamp the second-floor offices with new conference rooms and private spaces.
The building is part of the Loop, a biomanufacturing park owned by Invesco Real Estate, which acquired the property in 2021 for $100 million. The park has attracted several life science companies, including Azzur Group, Senti Biosciences, Penumbra, and Exelixis.
However, the Alameda research and development market is experiencing a slump, with vacancy rates rising to 14% in the third quarter. Over 500,000 square feet of space at Berkeley Commons is set to open next quarter, and another 260,000-square-foot retail-to-R&D conversion project is slated for completion by the third quarter of next year.
