Kutcher and Kunis renovate $17 million Carpinteria retreat amidst personal turmoil.

I
n a bid to reboot their coastal retreat, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are embarking on a comprehensive overhaul of their Carpinteria, California estate. The $17 million property has been in the midst of a transformative process since 2022's devastating floods and mudslides ravaged the seaside community.

Recent aerial shots reveal the main house is being stripped bare, with its porch, stairs, and chimney gone. The adjacent day cottage, where the couple once offered a free one-night Airbnb stay, has been completely demolished. This dramatic makeover comes at a relatively quiet time for the couple, who have largely kept a low profile following their high-profile support of Danny Masterson during his rape trial and Kutcher's past ties to Sean "Diddy" Combs.

The Carpinteria property, purchased by the couple in 2017 for $10.1 million, boasts stunning views of the Santa Ynez mountains and is nestled among a who's who of A-list neighbors, including Kevin Costner and George Lucas. Originally built in 1991, the 6-acre plot features a four-bedroom main house and a cozy day cottage mere steps from the beach.

The property suffered significant damage during the 2022-2023 floods, which saw the adjacent waterway swell with sludge and debris, affecting several notable properties in the area. While their Carpinteria home is being renovated, Kutcher and Kunis reside in their custom-built Beverly Hills mansion with their two children.

In a nod to their entrepreneurial spirit, Kutcher was an early investor in Airbnb, which turned his $2.5 million stake into a whopping $90 million windfall. The couple even listed their day cottage on the platform for a free one-night stay in 2023, with Airbnb making a donation to Kutcher's anti-child sex abuse charity, Thorn, in exchange.
