Bahamas Estate Designed by Late Architect Thierry Despont Lists for $42 Million

Bahamas' priciest property: $42m oceanfront estate on Harbour Island hits the market.

T
he Bahamas' priciest property to date has hit the market, boasting an eye-watering price tag of $42 million. This oceanfront gem on Harbour Island is a 3.5-acre compound known as Zehava, designed by renowned architect Thierry Despont in 2010 for former J.Crew CEO Millard "Mickey" Drexler.

Located within the exclusive pink sand enclave of "the Narrows," Zehava is one of only 12 homes on the market and boasts a prime spot alongside A-list neighbors, including Ronald Perelman, Arpad Busson, India Hicks, and Brooke Shields. The property's main house spans an impressive 4,500 square feet, featuring two bedrooms, 2½ bathrooms, a chef's kitchen, and a wine cellar.

The compound also includes two guest houses: a 2,000-square-foot unit with a full kitchen and additional storage, as well as a 1,000-square-foot cottage with two bedrooms and one bathroom. Plans are in place to build an even larger home on the property, further enhancing its allure.

Despont's design masterstroke features angular lines, pitched rooflines, and soaring ceilings that range from 10 to 30 feet high. Geometric panes of glass and slatted-wood walls create a seamless indoor/outdoor living experience, while materials like solid poured concrete, Brazilian hardwood, and cream-colored travertine stone add to the property's luxurious feel.

The landscaped grounds are a verdant oasis, boasting hundreds of specimen palm trees and a pickleball court. A generator and water filtration system ensure that Zehava remains a self-sufficient haven. If it sells for its asking price, this Bahamian beauty will set a new record, surpassing the current most expensive home sale in the country, which fetched $39.49 million.
