T
he Kretz brothers, Martin, Valentin, Louis, and Raphaël, have become household names in France thanks to their hit Netflix show "The Parisian Agency." This glossy real estate series has been a global phenomenon since its premiere on TF1-owned channel TMC in 2020. The show's success can be attributed to its unique blend of family dynamics, stunning properties, and the brothers' personal ambitions.
As the show enters its sixth season, it continues to captivate audiences worldwide, ranking as Netflix's fourth most-watched show globally in 2023. The series follows the Kretz brothers as they navigate their real estate empire, juggling client demands, family tensions, and personal relationships. With a surprising twist of American rap tunes scoring the show, "The Parisian Agency" has become a cultural phenomenon.
A spinoff series, "Nouvelles Destinations," is set to premiere on TF1 in April, focusing on Valentin and Martin's adventures as they scout exotic locations for prestigious properties. The brothers will challenge each other to find the best homes in destinations like the Basque region, Corsica, and the Italian Dolomites.
Variety caught up with Valentin Kretz over FaceTime from Cape Town, South Africa, where he was filming sequences for Season 6. When asked about the show's success, Valentin attributed it to its relatability, saying, "We're very lucky that our show has been enjoyed by so many people and across different generations because we cover all the ages." He also emphasized the importance of working as a family, which provides an "incredible opportunity."
The show is 99% true to life, with only minor reenactments for client comfort. Valentin collaborated with Ryan Serhant on his series about real estate in New York and noted the difference between U.S. shows and their own, saying, "Ours is 99% true to life. That's why it's a series that is quite tough and very long to produce."
Valentin also discussed the spinoff series, "Nouvelles Destinations," which sees him and Martin competing with each other to find the best properties in new locations. The brothers have always been close but have a friendly competition that pushes them to do better. Valentin emphasized that the show is not just about finding homes but also about exploring destinations and activities for their clients.
In "Nouvelles Destinations," the winner of each episode will be determined by who finds the best houses, restaurants, hotels, and activities in each destination. The brothers will vote on the winner, and then they'll decide where to open a new agency or invest in sending customers.
When asked if they were running out of amazing homes to show in Paris, Valentin replied, "At the end of each season, we ask ourselves: What can we do better than that?" He emphasized that there are still many treasures to explore in Paris and that they're not limited by the city's size.
As for what's next for the Kretz brothers, they're planning to start selling franchises for their agency this year and developing an academic training program for luxury real estate agents.
