ruz Companies, a leading 100% Black-owned construction and real estate development company, has partnered with Vicente's Supermarket to transform a former pharmacy into a neighborhood supermarket in Roxbury, Massachusetts. This project brings together two Cape Verdean-owned companies to address the area's need for a grocery store.
The new Vicente's Supermarket location will be convenient for residents who walk to buy groceries and fill prescriptions, including those at nearby Martin Luther King Towers. Cruz Companies is dedicated to supporting underserved neighborhoods and has a history of fostering minority businesses and strengthening inner city communities.
"We are delighted to work with Vicente's Supermarket to create a beautiful new store in Roxbury," says Justin Cruz, COO of Cruz Companies. "This project reflects the growth and positive direction that our companies and other Cape Verdean businesses are taking in the Greater Boston region."
Cruz Companies operates several subsidiaries, including John B. Cruz Construction, Cruz Development Corporation, and Cruz Management Corp., which provide a range of services from construction to property management. The company is also committed to giving back to its communities through initiatives like Cruz C.A.R.E.S., which offers scholarships, enrichment programs, and outdoor adventures.
This project marks the first collaboration between Cruz Companies and Vicente's Supermarket, a Brockton-based grocery chain that serves a unique niche with imported products from Brazil, Cape Verde, and elsewhere. The company operates four other locations in areas with large Cape Verdean communities.
