Byron Bay's Most Expensive Home on Market: Chris Hemsworth's Neighbour Seeks Record-Breaking Sale

Hemsworths caught up in Byron's priciest property listing due to unexpected connection.

C
hris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky's animals have inadvertently become part of the marketing hype surrounding their neighbour's luxury listing, Ohana. The property, a 9-hectare estate in Byron Bay, is being touted as the priciest retreat in the area.

The reason for the Hemsworths' involvement? Their donkeys and puppies are known to wander into the Staley's compound, causing a friendly commotion between the two families. "Sometimes their donkeys get loose," says vendor Russell Staley, who has listed Ohana with a hefty price tag.

Ohana features a unique series of interconnected pavilions designed by Virginia Kerridge, nestled behind bush and dunes on Seven Mile Beach. The property can sleep 28 people and boasts resort-style amenities, including a pool, tennis court, basketball court, and skateboard half-pipe.

The grounds are expected to set a new Byron region record, potentially surpassing the $33.65m paid for Emma and Tom Lane's luxury ranch in Coopers Shoot last year. The property has a rich history, having traded hands several times since its purchase by Paul Hogan and his colleagues in 1983 for just $265,000.

The Hemsworths themselves set a record in Broken Head when they bought a 4.2-hectare holding on the shared dirt road that leads to Ohana for $7m in 2014.
