Cape Cod Estate Once Owned by Bunny Mellon Lists for $25,000 Weekly Rental

The estate boasts original gardens and breathtaking ocean views.

T
he historic Cape Cod estate of philanthropist and horticulturist Rachel "Bunny" Mellon is available for rent this summer. Located in a gated community, the property at 19 Indian Trail in Oyster Harbors features original gardens designed by Mellon herself, as well as a 1948 structure that still boasts its original kitchen.

Listing agent Michelle Sylvia notes that the home's rich history makes it special, citing its connection to prominent figures like Jacqueline Kennedy. According to Mellon's obituary, she was born into wealth and had a lifelong passion for gardening, which led her to design gardens for clients including Mrs. Kennedy and the White House Rose Garden.

The estate, which has been renovated to become a rental property, still retains many personal touches designed by Mellon herself. The property features two side-by-side homes with six bedrooms, five full baths, and expansive ocean views. Amenities include a large heated pool, water views of Sampsons Island, and a dock on Nantucket Sound.

Sylvia notes that the property's history is just one aspect of its appeal, saying "If history doesn't interest you, certainly you are in a beautiful setting in a gated community." The estate is available to rent for $25,000 per week during peak summer months.
