Dallas Hotel Sold to Developer Ray Washburne, Rooftop Revamp Planned

Dallas Investor Ray Washburne's Charter Holdings Acquires Tru by Hilton Dallas Market Center in Partnership with Liberty Hospitality Group.

A
partnership between Ray Washburne's Charter Holdings and the Liberty Group has acquired the Tru by Hilton Dallas Market Center on Stemmons Freeway. The 152-room hotel, located across from the Infomart, will remain under the Hilton brand. Liberty Hospitality Partners, a subsidiary of the Liberty Group, will manage the property.

Washburne announced that his group would invest several million dollars in renovations, focusing on upgrading one of the city's largest rooftop bars. The bar will be managed by Washburne's MCrowd Restaurant Group, which operates TexMex favorite Mi Cocina. A signature margarita from Mi Cocina is expected to feature on the menu.

The hotel tower was redeveloped and opened in 2021 after being originally built as a bank in 1965. The property has changed hands several times since its redevelopment, with Napali Capital purchasing it in 2021. The latest purchase marks Washburne's latest investment in Dallas' urban core, following the acquisition of the Founders Square building and the downtown Greyhound Station.

Washburne is optimistic about Dallas' long-term future, citing the $3 billion Convention Center project and the 2026 FIFA World Cup as positive developments. He plans to spend several million dollars renovating the hotel, with construction expected to start in late spring and the bar opening by early summer.
