52-year-old man from Farmington Hills, Haidir Altoon, was sentenced for his role in a bribery scheme involving former Taylor Mayor Rick Sollars. As part of the scheme, Altoon bribed Sollars with thousands of dollars, scratch-off lottery tickets, and other valuable items to secure tax-foreclosed properties through the Right of First Refusal program.
Sollars had asked Altoon to cash fraudulent campaign checks, which Altoon allegedly created fake invoices for catering services that were not provided. Altoon's company was awarded the majority of tax-foreclosed properties, with Sollars receiving over $70,300 from the scheme and transferring nine properties to Altoon.
Altoon was sentenced to one day in prison, two years of supervised release, six months of house arrest, and 100 hours of community service for conspiring to commit bribery. He will also pay a $10,000 fine.
