Developers Renovate Historic Stockyards Hotel with $20 Million Investment

Development Firm Plans $20 Million Renovation for Historic Fort Worth Hotel

A
joint venture between Majestic Realty and Hickman Companies is set to invest $20 million in a major renovation of the historic Stockyards Hotel in Fort Worth. The 26,500-square-foot hotel, located at 109 East Exchange Avenue, will undergo a complete interior demolition, upgrades to guest rooms, and enhancements to its exterior patio and public spaces. Dallas-based Nunzio Marc DeSantis Architects will lead the design, aiming to balance historic charm with modern amenities.

The renovation is part of a broader $1 billion expansion of the Stockyards, which includes adding 300,000 square feet of commercial space, at least 500 hotel keys, and 295 multifamily units. This follows the success of the project's first phase, which introduced popular establishments like Shake Shack and Hotel Drover.

The Stockyards attract around 9 million visitors annually, a significant increase from 3 million in 2014. The hotel itself has a rich history, having welcomed notable guests such as Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, as well as country music icon Willie Nelson. Renovated and reopened in 1984 by entrepreneurs Marshall Young and Tom Yater, the hotel remains an integral part of the area's cultural fabric.

The project is led by Ed Roski's Majestic Realty, a major player in Los Angeles with other projects throughout Texas, including industrial developments and business parks in Austin, Fort Worth, and Kyle. The renovation is scheduled to start in January and take approximately 18 months to complete.
