DFW Partnership Tackles Homelessness through Innovative Real Estate Solutions

Entryway North Texas connects at-risk families with job opportunities in multifamily communities.

T
he Dallas-Fort Worth multi-housing industry is experiencing rapid growth, with thousands of new apartment units expected to come online in the coming years. However, this expansion boom is hindered by a persistent challenge: attracting and retaining skilled employees for on-site positions at multifamily communities.

As the executive director of the Apartment Association of Greater Dallas (AAGD), I've heard from members about the high turnover rate among entry-level workers. Fortunately, there's an organization addressing this shortage while empowering lives. Entryway, a national nonprofit that entered the DFW market in 2022, bridges this gap with an innovative approach.

In partnership with the real estate industry, Entryway helps individuals and families at risk of homelessness transition to economic self-sufficiency through career training, employment, and housing opportunities. They work with local nonprofits like Austin Street Center and Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas to identify skilled individuals who have experienced life-altering events that put them at risk.

Entryway's comprehensive approach offers job training, mentoring, and ongoing services to support these individuals in their journey back to stability. They then connect participants with multifamily industry partners hiring for on-site jobs. Tracy Burr's story exemplifies the transformative impact of Entryway's model. A veteran referred through the Homeless Veterans Reintegration program, Tracy secured a maintenance technician position at Overture River District with Entryway's support.

Once hired, Entryway participants receive discounted housing and fully furnished apartments through a partnership with CORT. This creates a win-win-win scenario: industry partners gain diverse team members, participants achieve employment stability and economic independence, and local communities benefit from reduced homelessness and increased economic activity.

The AAGD has invested over $100,000 to support Entryway's mission in North Texas. As we continue to collaborate with them, we look forward to witnessing more success stories like Tracy's. By providing opportunities for individuals to rebuild their lives, Entryway is transforming lives and strengthening our community, one new beginning at a time.
