lon Musk is amassing a collection of mansions in Austin's affluent area to create a sprawling compound for his 11 children. According to reports, he has acquired three adjacent homes within a ten-minute walk and plans to have at least two mothers live with him there.
Musk allegedly offered homeowners 20-70% above market value for their properties, some of whom were required to sign nondisclosure agreements before accepting the offer. Currently, only one mother, Shivon Zilis, resides in Austin, while Grimes has left due to a custody battle. The neighborhood is not particularly private, with neighbors able to detect when someone is home based on security guards or pet groomers.
Musk's ambitions extend beyond his family compound. He plans to build a town outside of Austin for employees at SpaceX, Tesla, and the Boring Company, and will relocate X headquarters to Bastrop. The city manager has confirmed that they are preparing for the influx by expanding their wastewater and water systems. Neighbors in the area seem uncertain about Musk's long-term plans, with one resident speculating that he may have "lots of whims" and change his mind soon.
