redrik Eklund, the star of Million Dollar Listing New York, has achieved unparalleled success in U.S. real estate, closing over $15 billion in sales nationwide. However, his journey to the top was far from meteoric. Two decades ago, he was handing out paninis outside David Letterman's show for just $15 an hour.
Eklund's big break came when a friend suggested he pursue a career in real estate, leveraging his outgoing personality and drive. He obtained his license from New York University and landed his first client six months later. This marked the beginning of his rise to fame in the industry.
Today, Eklund leads The Eklund|Gomes Team at luxury firm Douglas Elliman, with a team of around 100 agents across 10 markets. His celebrity clientele includes Jennifer Lopez, Joe Jonas, and Sarah Jessica Parker. He's also set his sights on Miami as a sales ambassador for a $2 billion luxury living project.
Eklund's success wasn't immediate; it took years to achieve. "It was very scary not knowing the city," he recalls. "Nobody would give me business because I didn't know anyone." Despite this, he persevered and eventually found his footing in the industry.
Becoming a successful real estate agent takes time and perseverance. Eklund warns that it can take five years to make it in the industry, which is marked by intense competition. He advises aspiring agents not to give up, even when faced with self-doubt. "It's an art and a craft," he explains. "You have to be out on the streets, learning from your mistakes."
Eklund's own journey serves as a testament to his determination and drive. From handing out paninis to closing $15 billion in sales, he's built his empire from scratch. His success is a reminder that hard work and perseverance can lead to great rewards in the real estate industry.
