A
couple's dream beachfront home was born from a dilapidated public bathroom, which they transformed into a serene retreat after a decade-long renovation process. The property, now listed for $372,000, boasts stunning views of the sea and sand.
Elaine and Alan Taylor purchased the abandoned restroom in 2015 for just $38,000 through a blind bidding process. They envisioned turning it into their private beachfront sanctuary, despite its unappealing state. "We thought it would be amazing because of its proximity to the sand dunes and the sea," Elaine said.
The renovation was far from straightforward. The couple had to raise the floor level by over three feet for flood mitigation, which led to a complete overhaul of their plans. They also discovered that the electricity was connected to street lamps and all the plumbing needed replacement. COVID-19 lockdowns further delayed progress.
Despite these setbacks, the Taylors persevered and created a cozy one-bedroom, one-bathroom home with granite countertops, underfloor heating, and a skylight for stargazing. They named their unique coastal lair "Hafan Y Traeth," or beach haven. Now, due to changing life circumstances, they've decided to sell the property, eager to see it occupied by new owners who will love and cherish it as much as they do.
