I
come from a family where financial stability was the norm. My parents, both hardworking individuals, rose through the ranks in their respective careers - my mom at the post office and my dad with the Chicago Police Department. They instilled in me the value of saving and investing early on. Our family's modest income was supplemented by my dad's savvy real estate investments, which allowed us to live comfortably in a three-family home that he owned.
As I grew older, I began to appreciate the benefits of real estate investing firsthand. My parents' success taught me that building wealth wasn't just about earning a high salary, but also about making smart financial decisions. After college, I landed a job at one of the biggest tech companies, where I honed my skills in digital marketing strategy. This experience sparked my entrepreneurial spirit, and I eventually started two businesses: Kings Crowning, which sells satin-lined hair wraps for men of color, and Crowned Skin, a skincare brand that's taken off with its men's body butter products.
Today, I'm proud to say that I've achieved financial freedom at 27. With over $4 million in revenue from Crowned Skin alone, I've been able to invest in real estate, owning around 18 rental units in the Chicago area. However, despite my success, I still rent a modest condo where I live. It's not about being frugal; it's about being smart with my finances and avoiding debt that could jeopardize my business ventures.
My friends from high school can't relate to my wealth, but we've managed to maintain our close relationships over the years. We share stories and laughter, and they never expect me to pick up the tab when we hang out. I appreciate their understanding and respect for my financial boundaries. In fact, I work hard to maintain a sense of normalcy in my life, often picking up the check or treating friends to dinner. It's not about flaunting my wealth; it's about being true to myself and my values.
As I continue to build my businesses and grow my wealth, I remain humble and focused on my goals. I work tirelessly, just as I did when I was starting out, driven by a sense of ambition and a desire to achieve more. My success is not just about the money; it's about creating a life that truly reflects who I am and what I value.
