mma Kathryn Compere's college experience took an unexpected turn when she attended the Alabama Center for Real Estate (ACRE) Career Fair. As a senior at the University of Alabama, Emma Kathryn had initially planned to attend law school, but after meeting with Grayson Glaze, ACRE's Executive Director, she discovered her passion for real estate.
At the fair, Emma Kathryn was drawn to Crawford Square, a Birmingham-based firm that offered her an internship opportunity. She spent seven months working with the company, gaining hands-on experience in leasing and tenant services. This experience not only deepened her understanding of the industry but also helped her see the day-to-day reality of being a real estate professional.
ACRE played a pivotal role in Emma Kathryn's career shift, providing her with guidance, networking opportunities, mentorship, internships, and career pathways. Grayson Glaze's support and encouragement were particularly instrumental in helping her navigate this new path. "He is a cheerleader who gives tangible skills and people to meet," Emma Kathryn said.
Today, only two months from graduation, Emma Kathryn plans to move back to Birmingham to pursue a career in real estate. She credits ACRE with teaching her the value of networking and never writing off someone just because they may not seem directly connected to the industry. "Everyone is impacted by real estate, whether they rent or own," she said.
For students interested in exploring Alabama's real estate scene, ACRE offers two annual forums: the Rocket City Real Estate & Economic Forum in Huntsville and the River Region Real Estate & Economic Forum in Montgomery. These events feature guest speakers, panels, and educational seminars that provide valuable insights into the industry. The next forum will take place on November 13 at Wynlakes Golf & Country Club in Montgomery.
